Question   C.F. Highfield
Hi;

Very nice site. I have a painting of my Uncle Edwin Gardiner by C.F. Highfield. My Grandfather James G. Gardiner was Premier of Sask. then Fed. Minister of Agriculture with Mackenzie King. When his son Edwin was shotdown (and killed)in his spitfire in Dieppe. C.F. Highfield painted his portrait from a newspaper picture and sent the painting to my Grandfather's office in Ottawa. I now have the painting in my office.

regards;

Bill Candlish

  Answer I have 6 pictures by highfield and would like to have more information about him. I know he went to canada.I believe he had a portrait of sitting bull in ottawa.I am very interested to know more.

- mavis baker  5/30/2009 3:44:24 AM

  Answer Hi, I believe the portrait you are referencing is "Red Tomahawk". Red Tomahawk was the Chief that is accredited with the killing of Sitting Bull. This painting is still in the family collection.

I would be very interested in exchanging information with you. If you could please use the "Contact Us" button at the top and provide me with your email address we’ll be better able to communicate.

Question   slide shows
I am not very competent with computers, but I am unable to activate your slideshows. Could it be that either your site or myself is dysfunctional. What I can see of your work (1st photo of each series) is exceptional!!!! Wish I could see more. Instructions for operating would be much appreciated.

Dick

- docdick 10/19/2005 11:36:21 AM

  Answer Thank you for your comment. I'm not sure what web browser you are using , but I've just noticed that the slide show features doesn't seem to work with Mozilla Firefox. I'll notify my web designer to see if there's a fix for it. If you don't have Internet Explorer you can still view the Galleries with Firefox by clicking on the Gallery title or thumbnail instead. Thank you & Enjoy!
