Four photos stitched in a panoramic then rendered into a sphere via the Polar Coordinates Distortion filter in Photoshop (GIMP can be used as well). Polar Coordiates takes all of a couple of seconds to render. The real work is the blending seams, lighting, and tonality prior to applying the filter, and the repairing the more severe distorations and misalignments afterwards.
