Pocahontas saving the life of Capt. John Smith

This is a replica of Victor Nehlig (1830 - 1909) work done in 1874. The original Victor Nehlig piece is housed in the Library of Congress in Washington. C.F. Highfield's replica was painted from a small print brought back by a friend that had visited the USA capital. Painted sometime during the family's early Saltcoats (Saskacthewan) years. (1922-1927)
This painting appears on page 90 of volume 1 of the Paintings of Charles F Highfield Authoured by Daisy Lloyd Highfield (1914-1990).
